Bali’s Best Dive Sites

Bali’s best dive sites include Tulemban, Amed, Padangbai, Nusa Lembongan and Pulau Menjangan. Bali is legendary for its scuba diving and snorkeling. Coral reefs abound and there are very reliable scuba diving companies which are PADI registered. The Bali Diving Centre of Semawang has compiled a list of Bali’s best dive sites. Most other diving groups go to these too. Bali’s best dive sites are:

Nusa Dua

Beach: White Sand
Topography: Slope and flat bottoms
Entry: From the boat
Depth of Diving : 10 to 60 Feet (3 to 20m)
Object: Sea View; spear fishing, photography

Note: Facing the Northern and Southern sea opposite Bualu -Nusa Dua. Offers gigantic under-water panorama and various types  of sponges and  fish.  Fully covered with rich and colourful corals, satisfies the most seasoned diver. Dives between 3 to 20 metres will be the most rewarding.

Sanur

Beach: White Sand
Topography: Slope and flat bottoms
Entry : From the boat
Depth of Diving: 10 to 75 Feet (3 to 25m)
Object: View under the sea, photography, spear fishing

Note: Located in front of Sanur’s tourist beach. Dives at 2 to 12 metres depths will be rewarded by beautiful underwater panoramas. Table and trophy shaped coral and sponges, thousands of colourful fish swim by in kaleidoscope profusion.

Padangbai

Beach:    White Sand
Topography: Slope

Depth of Diving: 5 to 60 Feet (3 to 20m)
Object: Underwater panorama, photography, spear fishing

Note: Located about 70km North-East of Denpasar. This picturesque bay is surrounded by majestic cliffs and hills. Ideal for dives at 3 to 20 metres depths. Here water is strewn with a full growth of coral, fish and what nots which will surely guarantee an impressive underwater adventure.

Tulamben

Beach: Stony
Topography: Slope
Entry : From the beach
Depth of Diving: 10 to 90 Feet (3 to 30m)
Object: Shipwreck (Cargo Ship Liberty)

Note: Located about 110km North-East of Denpasar, you drive through truly idylic Balinese countryside. On location you will see the remnants of a U.S. merchantman sunk during World War II. The wreck is fully grown with all kinds of anemone, gorgonia, sponge and coral.

Gili Taopekong

Beach: Sharp Cliff
Topography: Drop off
Entry: From the boat
Depth of Diving: 40 to 120 Feet (3 to 40m)
Object: Sea view and spear fishing

Note: The tiny island adjoining Bali. Located about 50km North of Denpasar. Reachable by motor boat. 30mm from the mainland. Suitable for expert divers and fully grown with a variety of colourful corals, sponges, plants and fishes. Suitable for spear fishing.

Amed

Beach: Stony
Topography: Slope then drop off
Entry: From the beach
Depth of Diving: 10 to 100 Feet (3 to 33m)
Object : Underwater panorama, spear fishing

Note: Located about 100km North East of Denpasar with a beautiful solitary beach and fully grown with anemone, gorgonia and sponges, small to larger fishes, make this underwater part of Bali ideal for beginners and professional divers.

Singaraja

Beach: Black sand
Topography: Slope
Entry: From the boat
Depth of Diving: 10 to 80 Feet (3 to 27m)

Note: Located about 80km due North of Denpasar, where the calm water of the Bali sea creates pool like conditions extremely ideal for leisurely snorkeling. The ideal locations are Lovina beach suitable for beginners and Gondol beach having slight currents from 5 to 15 metres depths.

Pulau Menjangan

Note: The tiny island 120km North West of Denpasar accessible by boat, only 10 minutes from the mainland. This area is suitable for all season diving where magnificent underwater vistas will surprise even the most seasoned diver. It is rich with all kinds of sponges, sea plants, coral and fish which stretches for miles on end. This area is considered the diver’s paradise in Bali and words alone cannot describe it’s true beauty.
